Step into the spo(r)tlight: Eventex Awards unveils new Sports & Tournaments categories 

As the world’s leading accolade for events and experience marketing, Eventex Awards has always strived for excellence — we constantly look for it and demand it from our entrants, our jury, and ourselves. That’s why each year we review and revamp our categories so that they both reflect and anticipate current and future trends. 

And for the 14th edition, together with an increased focus on venues and a spotlight on agencies and teams, we are introducing a new Sports & Tournaments group that celebrates the joy and competitive spirit of sporting events. 

A bigger playing field  

In-person events are back in full swing and we at Eventex believe that is worth celebrating as much as possible. And there are few events (if any) that represent both resilience and joie de vivre as well as sports. Add to that a dash of competitiveness, and you can see why we at Eventex have fallen under the spell of sports. But that’s not all:

• Organizing a sporting event is different from organizing any other type of event and as such, it needs its own group to give better recognition to those who made the event a smashing success;    
• Sporting events deserve bigger prominence — sporting events are a joy to participate in and watch and as such, they need their own group within the bigger family of events;   
• There are multiple sports and types of tournaments and having all of them crammed into a single category feels limiting.

Eventex Awards 2023 recognized world-class sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool and we believe that a separate group is a better fit to accommodate events of such magnitude, as well as smaller-scale ones that deserve recognition. 

One group to rule them all  

The new Sports & Tournaments group incorporates multiple categories that will set the stage for sporting competitions, tournaments, marathons, races, games, team sports, and other sporting events with:

• Sport-specific categories — European or American football, cricket from Down Under, Canadian hockey, or athletics? Eventex Awards 2024 has a category for it, along with several broader ones to accommodate absolutely any sport. 
• A dedicated Esports category — we have not forgotten the organizers of gaming events, tournaments, and championships whose efforts deserve their own category so we’re keeping our existing esports category in the mix.
