Melvin Lin

Melvin leads the Marketing & Communications team in CBRE Singapore, and has over 15 years of experience across a variety of organisation types and sizes. His career has taken him across diverse fields such as Real Estate, Risk Advisory, Aviation, Education, and working in a think tank, as well as across regions including Asia and the Middle East.

Melvin relishes work that contributes towards growth and development for the organisation, often involving creative solutions and introduction of change. He also aspires to “pay it forward” by helping team members grow in their careers, having been the beneficiary of the privilege of working with a few inspirational leaders in the course of his career. As a leader, using the analogy of a soccer team, he prefers to play the role of team captain rather than team manager whenever possible.

His experience with the Singapore Armed Forces as a combat medic has also greatly influenced the way Melvin works. He is focussed on completing missions, but he also believes it is equally important to bring the team home with him when the mission is complete. His several real-life experiences as first-responder to scenes with multiple casualties has also taught him about prioritising - sometimes, the injured person who is screaming most loudly, or the one who holds the most senior rank, may not necessarily be the first person he should attend to.

Outside of work, Melvin tries (with varying degrees of success) to get his family to share in his interests - soccer, tennis, martial arts, travelling, and photography. He also loves driving, and has been to motor racing school.
