Publishing Editor of Film & Event Media

Lance Gibbons is the Publishing Editor of Film & Event Media, a publishing house with a history spanning over a fifteen years in the film and business events industries. The company publishes the following trade magazines: the Event Planner’s Guide to Africa, the Event, the Filmmaker’s Guide to Africa, the Callsheet and SA Chef magazine.

He has a background in film production and servicing international content here in South Africa, and once owned a production company called Rocket Film which is still operational today. After founding the Callsheet in 2003, and the Event in 2005, he has since been heavily involved in both sectors – sitting on the board of the Cape Film Commission and the Exhibitions of South Africa Western Cape committee, the South African Association of the Conference Industry Western Cape committee, the Film SA committee, the Exhibitions for SA Committee, the Service SETA Events Chamber and many other working groups.

Lance was previously a judge for the Sithengi Film Awards, the Imbongi Commercial and Service Awards, the EXSA Awards, and has evaluated stands at AfricaCom’s awards based on criteria like concept, themes, interactivity, multi-sensory and eye catching, appropriate sense of flow, effective use of architecture, space, displays, technology, and lighting; staff, presentations, marketing materials, VIP areas, and more.

His trade journal, the Event, has many strong partnerships with the local and international industry, and has published the daily news – in print and digitally – for trade shows like Meetings Africa, The Loeries and Africa’s Travel Indaba for a number of years. Their media partnership with the UFI Congress in SA saw them publish the event’s dailies. The Event is Africa’s partner to the Joint Industry Meetings Council – the ICEBERG initiative, and it is also an International Meetings Review Network publisher in Africa.
