Meeting Designer | Facilitator | Author | Founder, Conferences That Work

Adrian Segar loves to facilitate connection between people. He has been designing, facilitating, and convening meetings since 1981, and participant-led and participation-rich events, commonly known as unconferences, since 1992.

He is the author of two books on meeting design. Conferences That Work: Creating Events That People Love has been described as “the how-to manual” on creating events that truly engage and capitalize on attendees’ collective wisdom and experience. Paul Salinger, VP Marketing, Oracle, said that his book The Power of Participation: Creating Conferences That Deliver Learning, Connection, Engagement, and Action  “should be open on every meeting planner’s and event marketer’s desk, and used every day”.

His latest book Event Crowdsourcing: Creating Meetings People Actually Want and Need, to be published in 2019, is a comprehensive guide to creating events that reliably include the sessions and session content attendees actually want and need.

Adrian is an acknowledged innovator and presenter on participant-led event design, and facilitates four popular opening and closing plenaries: The Three Questions, Solution Room, Personal Introspective, and Group Spective.

He has presented at just about every meetings industry event, including PCMA Convening Leaders and Education Conference, MPI World Education Congress, IBTM, MPI Chapter meetings, the MPI Chapter Business Summit, HSMAI MEET, theEVENT, and FRESH, GMIC & NESAE annual conferences, and been interviewed and profiled in numerous industry publications.

Adrian was named as one of the most innovative event professionals by BizBash Magazine, one of MeetingNet’s most influential online personalities and a 2017 Changemaker, and has been quoted on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.

Adrian lives in Vermont, USA, has founded two non-profits and has served for decades on many non-profit boards. He loves to sing and dance.
