Eventex 2018 Jury Yearbook: Nick Borelli

Eventex 2018 Jury Yearbook: Nick Borelli

President and Strategist of Borelli

Personal credo... Only surround yourself with smart passionate people. When you were a kid, you wanted to be… A trial lawyer. I like to argue. You became… A marketing consultant. Every kid’s dream! What would people say about you based on your handwriting? – I’m not Type A and I’m in 3rd grade.Which book do you think everyone should read? – The Tao Te ChingWould you rather be the funniest or the most intelligent person in the room? – Funniest. If you are the most intelligent person in the room, you have less to learn. If you are the funniest, people will share with you.The hardest thing about being in events... Perfection is impossible. Everything you build, you tear down. It’s like building sand castles. And the easiest? – Very little barriers to entry and it’s a young industry.Describe how you imagine a conference 100 years from now… Event teams will include psychologists, architects, data analysists, programmers who will have the advantage of biometric stat, facial recognition of microexpressions, and attendee big data in a way that seems passive to the attendee. Conversations will shift from logistics to emotion and well being. The need for gatherings in a world with sophisticated VR will be relegated to connecting and sharing more than ideas – emotional exchanges will be the experience designer’s stock and trade. The best advice you ever received… “You can have everything in life you want, if you just help enough people get what they want.” - Zig ZiglarHonest arrogance or hypocritical humility? - Hypocritical humility. We’re all hypocrites, we don’t all need to be arrogant.Action or thriller? - Action. Lots of room for bigger ideas to be hidden in action.Surprise ending or a happy ending? – Surprise ending. Take me somewhere I don’t expect that challenges me.Practice without theory is… the long road to experience.Less is more when… a true expert teaches an idea.At the end of the day… you choose the parameters of your own success. How can you not achieve?
